Wish Key: The Story of an Italo Disco Project and Its Transformation
Wish Key emerged in the 1980s as an Italian musical project within the burgeoning Italo Disco genre. Initially conceived as a group, the Wish Key brand was founded by Manlio Cangelli, already known for creating Scotch. The most iconic track, "Orient Express", born from the collaboration between Cangelli (music) and Lorella Ghilardi (lyrics, under the pseudonym Blue Russell), was originally intended for a female voice.
At the suggestion of Severo Lombardoni (Discomagic), the interpretation was entrusted to DJ Massimo Berti, with backing vocals by Blue Russell. "Orient Express" was recorded in October 1983 at the Regson studio in Milan. For the promotion of the track, given Blue Russell's unavailability, Silvia Merelli, Massimo Berti's wife, was involved.
In 1985, Massimo Berti, with the authorization of Manlio Cangelli, the owner of the Wish Key brand, released "Easy Way", with Silvia Merelli on backing vocals. Subsequently, Berti continued to produce and release tracks under the Wish Key name, including "Last Summer", achieving positive responses and participating in television broadcasts.
