“The Hues Corporation” was an American funk and R&B musical trio, best known for the hit song “Rock the Boat”. The band formed in Santa Monica (California) in 1969 and consisted of three singers and three sidemen. The singers were Hubert Ann Kelly, St. Clair Lee and Fleming Williams while the sidemans were Joey Rivera of Checkmates, Monti Lawston and Bob "Bullet" Bailey, ex of Leaves. Their recording debut took place in 1970 with the single "Goodfootin". In 1973 "RCA Records" signed them and released their first album "Freedom for the Stallion". The third single of the album, Rock the Boat, played a lot in New York clubs, first became a radio hit and later climbed the international charts, selling over two million copies. In 1974, Tommy Brown replaced Fleming Williams within the band and the success gradually faded, until the group disbanded in the early 1980s. Fleming Williams committed suicide on February 15, 1998 while St. Clair Lee died on March 8, 2011 at the age of 66 of natural causes.
