Andrea True, pseudonym of Andrea Marie
Truden was an American pornographic actress and singer. Born in Nashville on
July 26, 1943 into a family of Slovenian origin. His father Frank was an
engineer who died when Andrea was sixteen; his mother, Anne, was a polka singer
who had played with Frankie Yankovic's band. Since she was a child, she
followed in her mother's footsteps and began studying classical piano,
receiving high marks at the age of eleven for her piano audition for the "Accademia
di Santa Cecilia" in 1954. At the age of fifteen, she hosted the
television program "Teen Beat", in aired on the WTVF channel. Andrea
attended the “St. Cecilia Academy”, a Catholic school for girls dedicated to
the performing arts. She later studied music at Vanderbilt University's George
Peabody College. Andrea True starred in a few pornographic films in Scandinavia
in the 1960s and, towards the end of the decade, began appearing in American
adult films. Her first major role was in the movie “Head Nurse” in 1972. During
her heyday as a porn actress, around 1975, Andrea was hired by a real estate
firm in Jamaica to appear in their commercials. While working there, the
Jamaican government banned asset transfers in response to US-imposed sanctions
after the election of Michael Manley, a supporter of Fidel Castro. To return to
the United States, Andrea True would have had to give up her pay or spend the
money before returning home. At this point, since Andrea was trying to make it
in the music industry, she chose to invest the money in recording a demo
entitled "More, More, More", a song she had worked on with record
producer Gregg Diamond, his partner in a project called “The Andrea True
Connection”. Remixed by recording engineer Tom Moulton, "More, More, More"
became a favorite in nightclubs. It reached number four on the US Billboard Hot
100, number one on the US disco chart and the national singles chart in Canada.
In Europe it reached number five in the UK and number nine in Germany. A
full-length album of the same title followed, spawning the second single,
"Party Line", a minor chart success. In early 1977, Andrea released
the single "NY, You Got Me Dancing", a major hit that reached number
four on the US disco chart. In early 1978, he had another hit with "What's
Your Name, What's Your Number", which peaked at No. 56 in the US and No.
34 in the UK. Both singles were included on her second album “White Witch”.
Andrea never returned to the adult film industry and performed in Florida clubs
for some time. Subsequently, a serious disease developed in his vocal cords
which required surgery, essentially ending his ability to sing. Andrea True
died on November 7, 2011 in a hospital in Kingston, New York at the age of 68.
The cause of death was given as heart failure.
