Sandy Marton, pseudonym of Aleksandar
Marton, was born in Zagreb (Croatia) on 4 October 1959. It all began at the
1980 New Year's party at the home of politician Ciriaco De Mita where Claudio
Cecchetto was the DJ. The two became friends and in 1981 Sandy Marton made his
first public appearance at the Sanremo Festival as a dancer on Cecchetto's song
"Gioca Jouer". The following year he returned to Sanremo presented by
Cecchetto as "Steve Mustafà", in the dance troupe that accompanied the
new single "Ska Chou Chou". Cecchetto then decided to produce Sandy
Marton's debut single "Ok Run". This contributed to making him known,
but the explosion came in 1984, with the splendid and overwhelming "People
from Ibiza", a hymn to the Spanish nightlife of Ibiza which soon earned
first place in the Italian charts. After this amazing exploit, Sandy Marton was
no longer able to replicate the same success with the other singles that were
released subsequently. Among these, the following deserve to be remembered:
Exotic and Erotic, Camel by Camel and Love Sincronicity, the single with which,
in fact, he closed his singing career. In 1988 he moved permanently to the
island of Ibiza (Spain) where he still lives.
