Princess: From 80s Heights to a Personal and Artistic Comeback
Desiree Heslop, known professionally as Princess, is a British singer whose rise to fame in the 1980s left an indelible mark on pop music history. After starting out as a backing vocalist for the band Osibisa, Princess embarked on a solo career that quickly catapulted her into the spotlight.
Her debut album, simply titled "Princess" (1986), was an ambitious project composed and produced by the renowned trio Stock Aitken Waterman. The lead single, "Say I'm Your Number One", became a global hit, reaching the Top 10 of numerous European charts and earning a silver certification in the United Kingdom. This song has become one of Princess's most iconic tracks, defining her distinctive style. The second single, "After The Love Has Gone", further solidified her popularity.
In 1987, Princess signed with Polydor and released her second album, "All For Love". However, this work failed to replicate the success of her debut and proved to be a commercial disappointment. In 1989, an attempt to return with the single "Lover Don't Go" did not yield the desired results, and her third album, "Say It", scheduled for 1990, never saw the light of day, marking a difficult period in her career.
Princess's life was marked by personal tragedies, including the loss of her mother and the murder of her brother. In 1991, she moved to the United States, where she remained until 2003, before returning to England. In 2004, demonstrating resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, she founded her own record label, OnDa Ground Music Label, with her brother Donovan. Through this platform, Princess has released her music, including a previously unreleased version of her first single, "Ride", recorded when she was only 14 years old.
In April 2014, Princess marked an official return to the music scene with the release of her third album, "The Emergence". This new chapter in her career offered fans a more mature and personal perspective of her art, demonstrating her continued passion for music and her determination to overcome adversity.
