“Odyssey” is an American musical group that was formed in New York City in 1977. It all began in 1975, when the three sisters originally from Connecticut, Lillian Lopez, Luisa Lopez and Carmen Lopez formed the band “Lopez Sister”. In 1977, the band was renamed “Odyssey” and the debut single “Native New Yorker” immediately achieved great success. The song reached number twenty-one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the UK Singles Chart. Carmen Lopez left the band and her place was replaced by Filipino bassist and singer Tony Reynolds. After the release of the first album, Reynolds left and was replaced by William "Bill" McEachern. At that time, keyboardist and singer Steven Collazo also joined the group. The band “Odyssey” achieved their greatest chart success in the United Kingdom, scoring five singles in the Top 10. We remember "Use It Up and Wear It Out" (n.1 UK Singles Chart 1980), "If You're Lookin' for a Way Out" (no.6 UK Singles Chart 1980), "Going Back to My Roots" (no.4 UK Singles Chart 1981) and “Inside Out” (no.3 UK Singles Chart 1982). The single “Going Back To My Roots” from “Odyssey” is the third remake of the very famous Lamont Dozier song from 1977. A version by Richie Havens was also released in 1980. The original members of the band are all deceased: Lillian Lopez (1935-2012), Luisa Lopez (1933-2015), Carmen Lopez (1934-2016), Tony Reynolds (1935-2010).
