"Lipps Inc." were an American Disco-Funk music group founded in Minneapolis (Minnesota) by Steven Greenberg. Greenberg, who was a DJ at the time, decided to create his own disco music project and began writing and arranging songs. "Lip Sync" was the name of the project chosen by Greenberg, but he soon discovered that this pseudonym had already been used by another group. So he chose to change the name of the project calling it "Lipps Inc.". During an audition he met the singer and actress Cynthia Johnson, ex "Miss Black Minnesota" in 1976 and vocalist of the famous group "Flyte Tyme". Cynthia Johnson became singer and leader of the group "Lipps Inc.". The lineup was joined by guitarists David Rivkin and Tom Riopelle and bassist Terry Grant. In 1979, "Rock It" was released, the first single released under Greenberg's "Flight" label. The band released their debut album "Mouth To Mouth" in late 1979, achieving platinum status. In 1980, the song "Funkytown" reached # 1 in 28 countries, sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and earned a spot in the "One-Hit Wonders" section of the Rock & Roll Museum in Cleveland. Ohio. In the same album, in addition to the two singles mentioned, we remember the wonderful song “All Night Dancing” (n.1 Dance USA 1980). At the end of 1980 the second album entitled "Pucker Up" was released. The most successful single from the album was "How Long" which in 1981 reached the fourth position in the American dance chart and in Europe reached the top of the charts. "How Long" was actually a cover previously sung by the group "Ace" in 1974. After the third album "Designer Music", Cynthia Johnson left the band and was replaced by Margie Cox and Melanie Rosales. The "Lipps Inc." they released their latest album "4" in 1983 before finally breaking up two years later. The group received several awards, including three "Billboard Music Awards". Cynthia Johnson continued her musical career by remaining active as a member of the gospel group "Sounds of Blackness" with which she won three "Grammy Awards". In 1992, Steven Greenberg turned to the profession of "Web Designer" and remained in that field until 2007.
