The Italian musical project "Kano" was born in 1979 by keyboardist Stefano Pulga, guitarist Luciano Ninzatti and producer Matteo Bonsanto. It was originally designed to revolutionize the music of the time, combining the sounds of 70s disco music with the electronic sound of the decade that was about to begin. We can say that "Kano" were among the pioneers of Italo-Disco music with the song "I'm Ready". The song immediately became a break dance classic, reaching up to 21st place in the US black music singles chart. Subsequently the musicians entrusted the sung part of their songs ("Another Life", "Queen Of Witches"…) to the "black" voice of Glen White, so much so that the same interpreter will often be identified during television performances with the name of "Kano ”. In 1981 the second album "New York Cafè" was released, with the flagship song "Can't Hold Back Your Loving". Accompanying Glenn White's powerful voice were vocalists Linda Wesley, Leila Esposito and Rossana Casale. In the third album, "Another Life", there was the turning point towards Italo-Disco with the single that gave the album its name and which entered all the European charts. "Ikeya Seki" was an entirely instrumental piece, dated 1983; an evocative suite that relied on the recurring Japanese exoticism in Italo Disco and which was subsequently taken up by Gigi D'Agostino, to give life to a new piece. After a twenty-year break, in 2005 the name "Kano" returned with some productions related to the electro-dance genre, published under his own independent record label "Fulltime". In 2006 he returned with the new unreleased "We Are Ready" (new version of "I'm Ready").
STEFANO PULGA
Stefano Pulga was born in Sassari (Italy) on March 14, 1954. At the age of nine he began studying piano and at seventeen he moved to Milan and began to perform in night clubs and piano bars. In 1973 he collaborated for a few months with the musical group "Dik Dik" and then landed on the record label "Numero Uno" becoming part of the Italian light music complex "Flora Fauna Cemento", a group that will see the collaboration of singers such as Gianna Nannini and Ivan Graziani. After making his debut with his first single "Vivo/Stanco", in 1976 he decided together with Luciano Ninzatti, Stefano Cerri, Mauro Spina and Maurizio Preti to found the musical group "Crisalide", with which he accompanied on tour Loredana Bertè, Mario Lavezzi , Vince Tempera and Fausto Leali. In 1979 he went on tour with another formation with Roberto Vecchioni. From 1980, he gave up the live activity to devote himself to the recording studio as an arranger and producer. At the end of 1980 he founded the group "Kano", a dance music project for which he arranged and released the single "I'm Ready", part of the album "Kano". In 1981 he participated in the realization of the "Pink Project". The group revisited some hits in a dance key, such as Mammagamma and Sirius by Alan Parsons Project and Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd. In parallel, he produced the album "First True Love Affair" for the American singer Jimmy Ross. He also produced Kano's second album "New York Cake" in the same year. In 1983, he produced Kano's third album, "Another Life", and the second Pink Project album, "Split", was released. During the vocal sessions for this album, which took place in the United States, Pulga worked together with internationally renowned musicians such as Gordon Grody and Afrika Bambaataa. In his career, Stefano Pulga has played, produced or arranged for Anna Oxa, Afrika Bambaataa, Fiorella Mannoia, Alberto Radius, Fausto Leali, Mina, Riccardo Cocciante, Roberto Vecchioni, Gianna Nannini, Marcella Bella, Patty Pravo, Fiorello, Donatella Rettore, Eugenio Finardi, Edoardo Bennato, Riccardo Fogli, Fabio Concato and other famous artists.
