Gary Low, pseudonym of Luis Romano Peris Belmonte was born in Rome on 7 June 1954. Gary Low is an Italian singer and composer of Catalan origin among the pioneers of the Italian-disco genre in the early eighties. His father, a musician in turn, was used to make numerous tours abroad and in one of these, in South Africa, the young Luis Romano was highlighted as a singer at just six years old. He spent his childhood between the Italian capital and Barcelona, in the district of Sarrià, where his parents owned a house. In 1982 he came into contact with the producers Pierluigi Giombini and Paul Micioni who were setting up a stable of performers to play their first Italian disco productions: together with Gary Low they featured Gazebo (Paul Mazzolini), Mike Francis (Francesco Puccioni) and the group of Traks who were given "Masterpiece", "Survivor" and "Long Train Running" respectively. A Gary Low was proposed to interpret "You Are A Danger" as a launch disc and was a great global success in Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, United States as well as various African states. The following year with the CAT Record he released his first album "Go On" and the single "I Want You" became the anthem of the summer 1983. In 1984 was the turn of a remake "La colegiala" originally performed in the 70s  from the Peruvian group "Los Ilusionistas"  where the composer Walter Leon was a member. The song sung by Gary Low had a vast international success, so much so that it won the platinum record in Japan and Mexico. In spite of the sales awards obtained, however, Gary Low discovered in mid-decade that, like other artists of that period, the signed record contract guaranteed him very little or no earnings; he then decided to sue CAT Record to recover part of the record sales earnings. During the lawsuit he was forbidden by the court to bind himself to other labels and to maintain himself he opened a gym. Although he won the case he never managed to get back the lost earnings because the label failed, and the same happened with Hispavox, his distributor in Spain. After a tumor operation in 1990, in fact, he interrupted his artistic activity to continue full-time in his own gymnastic enterprise, meanwhile expanded with the opening of other gyms.
