"Change" is an Italian musical group formed by Mauro Malavasi (multi-instrumentalist), Paolo Gianolio (guitarist) and Davide Romani (bassist). Their story began in 1980 in Bologna, when they produced their first album, The Glow of Love, in collaboration with singers Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Brown. The tracks for the album were recorded at the "Fonoprint Studios" in Bologna (Italy) and were later taken to the "Power Station Studios" in New York City for the vocal recordings. The singles “The Glow of Love” and “Searching” were recorded and mixed at the "Mediasound Studios" in New York, and finally, all sessions were mastered at the "Sterling Sound Studios". The album achieved enormous worldwide success, becoming the first Italian product to enter the "Billboard Hot 100 Albums" in the United States. The debut single, A Lover's Holiday, performed by Jim Burgess, sold one million copies, and with the subsequent singles "Searching" and "The Glow of Love", Change set the record for nine weeks at number one on the American "Billboard" chart (from May to June 1980). This long-playing record was considered the best disco album of the year.
In 1981, they repeated the great success with the second album "Miracles". The record was created by the same writers and producers who had worked at the debut album but for some contractual differences Luther Vandross refused to participate in the project and was replaced by singer James "Crab" Robinson who partnered with singer Diva Gray. The three singles of the album "Paradise", "Hold Tight" and "Heaven Of My Life" reached the first place in the Billboard Club Play Singles ranking of 1981. In 1982, with the release of the third album, "Change" modified their musical style, approaching R&B and Funk but they hadn’t a great success. Only in 1984 with the song "Change Of Heart", they returned to the top of the European and American charts. In 2001, singer Janet Jackson used the “Glow Of Love”’s sample for her single "All For You". In 2018 “Change” returned with the original members Mauro Malavavi and Davide Romani along with the new singer Tanya Michelle Smith.
