Belinda Jo Carlisle is an American singer, musician and activist born in Hollywood, Los Angeles (California) on August 17, 1958. Her father Harold Carlisle was a gas station employee while her mother Joanne (née Thompson) was a housewife. Belinda was the first born of seven siblings; she has three brothers and three sisters. When Belinda was five, her father abandoned the family and moved with her mother to Burbank. In the meantime, her mother remarried, they moved to Thousand Oaks (California) and Belinda enrolled and attended the "Colina Junior High School". After graduating from Newbury Park High School, Belinda left home to pursue a career in music. His first musical experience occurred in 1977 as the drummer of the punk-rock group "The Germs" under the pseudonym "Dottie Danger". With friends and fellow musicians Margot Olavarria, Elissa Bello and Jane Wiedlin, a new band was created called initially "Misfits" and later "Go-Go's". The "Go-Go's" became one of the most successful American bands of the 80s. In 1981, the album "Beauty And The Beat" reached number one in the United States. Included on this LP were the two hit tracks "We Got The Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed". In 1982 the album “Vacation” was released (gold record) and in 1984 the album “Talk Show” followed. The "Go-Go's" disbanded in 1985 and Belinda embarked on a solo career. The debut album "Belinda" was released in 1986. The success was immediate, going gold in the United States and platinum in Canada with the single "Mad About You" reaching number three on the "Billboard Hot 100". In 1987 the album "Heaven On Earth" was released and the single "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" reached the top of the American and English charts. The disco mix dance reached number one on the "Billboard Hot Dance". The promotional video was directed by Academy Award-winning actress “Diane Keaton”. The second single from the album, "I Get Weak", reached number two in the US and number ten in the UK.  In 1989, the album "Runaway Horses" went double platinum in Australia and platinum in the UK and Canada. After releasing 5 solo albums, in 1994 Belinda reunited with the Go-Go's to record three new songs, including the single "The Whole World Lost Its Head" for the release of the double CD collection Return to the Valley of The Go-Go's“. In May 2021 it was announced that the "Go-Go's" would be inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".
