"Automat" is an instrumental album of electronic music released in 1978 by the record company "EMI". “Automat” was an Italian group made up of the two keyboard players from Rome, Romano Musumarra and Claudio Gizzi. For this album the musician Mario Maggi was also involved for the programming of the keyboards. All audible sounds on this album were produced by a MCS70 (Memory Controlled Synthesizer), one of the first programmable monophonic synthesizers, designed and built by Mario Maggi himself. In the credits of the realization of this record we also remember Luciano Torani, an Italian engineer who worked for many years for the famous record company "CGD". Their 1978 album is a rather rare example of Italian instrumental electronic music, built entirely on synthetic sounds and rhythms. Side A of the album is entirely occupied by Claudio Gizzi's track "Automat", while side B contains three shorter songs by Musumarra. Masumarra's song “Droid” was chosen as the theme song for the Brazilian television network “Globo TV”, and the album was also printed in Brazil. At the same time as "Automat", Romano Musumarra also played in the group "La Bottega dell'Arte", in business between 1975 and 1984 with many successful singles. The other member of the duo, Claudio Gizzi, had a background in classical music.
