Eddy Grant, seudónimo de Edmond Montague Grant, nació en
Plaisance (Guyana) el 5 de marzo de 1948 y es un músico de reggae / pop,
cantante y productor discográfico. Desde temprana edad emigró con sus padres a
Londres. En los años sesenta fundó un grupo musical multirracial llamado
"The Equals" del cual era guitarrista y voz principal. La alineación
alcanzó la cima de las listas de ventas británicas con el sencillo "Baby
Come Back". Después de la disolución de "The Equals", Grant
continuó como solista y en 1982 alcanzó la cima de las listas dos veces con las
canciones "I Don't Wanna Dance" y "Killer on the Rampage".
En 1988 Grant grabó el último de sus grandes éxitos, "Gimme Hope
Jo'anna", un manifiesto de reggae contra el apartheid. Eddy Grant fue el
fundador de la compañía discográfica "Ice Records", con sede en
Barbadose y más tarde productor de artistas como Sting, Mick Jagger y Elvis
Costello.
